Assistant Head Coach Paul Franks says that a galvanised Nottinghamshire are determined to bounce back from defeat in this week’s trip to Yorkshire.

The Green and Golds went down to Durham by seven wickets in a dramatic affair late on Day Four at Banks Homes Riverside, and will now aim to put things right at Headingley.

A 14-strong squad has been named for the encounter, with play getting underway at 11am tomorrow, Friday 23 May.

“Obviously, it was a tough few days up in Durham, and we have to take that on the chin,” said Franks. “We played some really good cricket in that game, but we weren’t quite good enough to come away with the result we wanted.

“It was a long journey home, and whenever you lose a game like that, you’ve got to soak that up a little bit.

“We’ve had a little bit to take on board over the last 24 hours, but the lads have recovered as well as they can, and we’re now back and ready to go.

“The preparation over the last 24 hours has been really good, and we’re looking forward to tomorrow.”

Franks went on to note that the intensity of the fixture schedule can have an effect, but stresses that it is not an excuse, and the squad are as motivated as ever to end the first block of Championship cricket on a high.

“I think there are positives and negatives from [the schedule], there always are,” he said. “The boys have been going at it pretty much flat out for the last seven weeks, and playing some really good cricket, but there have been some quite tired bodies and minds at times.

“We have to factor that in, that’s important, because they’re the best and the most valuable commodity in the game.

“That being said, they’re excited to play again tomorrow. They’re excited to play at Headingley and to try and put one over on Yorkshire.”

In particular, Franks believes the fixture itself against the White Rose, and the location at a ground always known for its hostility, will only serve to fire Notts up even more.

“I think it’s a fantastic place to play well,” Franks said of Headingley. “It’s always quite a partisan crowd, who always support their team, but who always let their team know what they think too.

“It’s our responsibility to get on top of them and try and put that pressure back on Yorkshire as much as we can.

“We’re playing well, we have a lot of people playing well within our team, and we come with confidence. We’re looking forward to taking them on.”
