Brett Hutton’s four wickets gave Nottinghamshire Second XI a shot at usurping Warwickshire on a rapidly-moving second day of their clash at Lady Bay.

On a day during which 22 wickets fell in all, the Bears had taken a first-innings advantage of 130 by setting 372 and then dismissing the hosts for 242 - in spite of 96 from Sam Seecharan.

However, the visitors, looking to set an unassailable chase, then found themselves firmly dragged back into a now-enthralling contest by coming out on the wrong side of Hutton’s 4/16.

That, along with a return of 3/21 from Tom Giles, left them 119-9 at stumps, leading by a still-eminently chaseable 249.

Seecharan’s innings had earlier held the Nottinghamshire batting effort together, with 28 from Dane Schadendorf’s and Raheem Ahmed’s 25 forming the chief support.

It came off 139 balls and included 15 fours, and had followed Conor McKerr taking two scalps to polish off the Warwickshire tail, who were only able to add 19 to their overnight 353-7.

Facing the deficit they were, the hosts then rallied with the ball in their hands once more to run riot through the Bears’ batting order.

They claimed two wickets for no runs on three separate occasions, with Giles at one point being on a hat-trick, and it was only Hamza Shaikh’s 45 that helped the visitors to anything of note.

Hutton and Farhan Ahmed rounded out the day by ensuring two more wickets went down in both the penultimate and the last over, to give Notts real hope heading into Day Three.
