TRUST RECEIVES ARMED FORCES COVENANT AWARD

Trust News

The Trent Bridge Community Trust has been awarded the Armed Forces Covenant’s Bronze Award, a few short months after signing up to the programme.

The award, which is part of the Covenant’s Employer Recognition Scheme, marks the commitment that the club’s charitable arm has made to understand the needs and talents of the military community.

Trust staff have received specialist training to enable them to recognise the unique skills and experiences of ex-service personnel, whilst the organisation has made use of professional information designed to direct those who served in the military to suitable support services.

The charity also designated a day of Championship cricket in 2019 as an ‘armed forces day’, with active and former personnel granted complimentary entry and access to a range of tailored entertainment.

“When we signed the Armed Forces Covenant last spring, we were always keen to ensure it was far more than a token gesture,” said Mark Clifford, the Trust’s Community Projects Manager.

“Our work in the community frequently brings us into contact with individuals who have seen action – and while their reintegration into civilian life can bring its own challenges, it’s important to recognise the unique skills they have to offer.

“More than anything, our support of the military community is intended as a thank you for their deeds at home and overseas.”

Dovetailing with the work of the Trust, Nottinghamshire have shown their support for the armed forces community in partnership with Tickets for Troops.

This included the provision of complimentary tickets for Notts Outlaws’ Vitality Blast fixture against Northamptonshire Steelbacks last summer.

“We are delighted that the Trent Bridge Community Trust has received an Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze award for its support through the Covenant,” said John Wilson OBE DL, Director of Employer Engagement at the East Midlands Reserve Forces and Cadets Association.

“Employing military trained personnel is highly beneficial to employers; the skills and experiences developed through military training help employers to fill skill gaps in their businesses. So, involvement with the Armed Forces Covenant is of benefit to both parties.”
