Nottinghamshire’s Alex Hales has been named in a 16-man ODI squad for England’s tour of Sri Lanka.

The destructive batsman joins the squad for a five-match series starting in Dambulla on October 10.

Elsewhere, Olly Stone has been called up for the first time as a replacement for Liam Plunkett, who will be available for the final two games of the series due to his wedding.

The Warwickshire seamer has been in fine form in the Specsavers County Championhip after taking 12 wickets at an average of 28.16 during this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup.

Yorkshire’s all-rounder David Willey misses out due to a back injury whilst Hampshire spinner Liam Dawson earns a recall to the 50 over side for the first time since making his ODI debut against Pakistan in 2016.

Fast bowler Sam Curran also re-joins the side after taking part in this summer’s series against Australia alongside his brother Tom.

The squad will depart for Colombo on September 30.
