Tom Moores credited his team-mates' mental strength as Joe Clarke led a show of resistance on day three against Warwickshire.
Clarke battled his way to his 19th First-Class century, closing the day on an undefeated 119 from just 178 deliveries, with Nottinghamshire trailing by 149.
