Jason Holder is not allowing his team’s preparations for their ICC Cricket World Cup opener at Trent Bridge to be swayed by the huge totals recently seen at the ground.

Crowds in Nottingham have witnessed record-breaking batting performances twice in the past three years, with many pundits predicting it could be the ground on which 500 runs are scored in an ODI innings for the first time.

But the West Indies skipper cut a phlegmatic figure ahead of his side’s clash with Pakistan.

“I don’t want to sit here and predict that we’ll go out and score 400 or 500 runs, we’ll just play to suit the conditions,” said Holder.

“The way the game is going in general, there probably will be some high totals in the competition, but our warm-up games were relatively low-scoring.

“We’ll assess the conditions as early as possible tomorrow and play to suit them."

Former Outlaw Darren Bravo is set to line up in the Windies’ middle order, having returned to the side after a dispute with Cricket West Indies triggered a two-year absence from international cricket.

But Holder feels Bravo is already having a positive impact on the atmosphere around the squad.

“He had a period of time out of the game, and it's always hard coming back in, but his energy around the team is exceptional,” said Holder.

“He's one of those guys that definitely brings energy to the team, and he's slowly but surely getting back into his rhythm.

“I think he's very, very confident going into this first game against Pakistan and he knows the impact he can have on the team and the team's performance when he gets going.”

The two-time winners of the competition are bidding for their first taste of 50-over glory for 40 years, and Holder is satisfied with how his outfit have prepared for the challenge.

“Everybody’s in a good frame of mind and we’re playing with smiles on our faces, and that's when we play our best cricket.

“We’ve got the atmosphere and the energy within the camp that we like to have, so it’s down to us to execute well on the field.

“We’ll be as professional as we possibly can, and will look to play solid cricket and find a way to be successful.”
