SUPER 9s
Competitive disability cricket in a supportive environment
The ECB Super 9s cricket format is part of the national disability cricket structure, and Nottinghamshire is taking part in the Challenge level of the competition for the first time in 2025.
As part of Trent Bridge Community Trust’s Disability Pathway, players with any disability can now start their cricket journey in an SEND or mainstream school, play community softball cricket at Super1s, then compete in a Nottinghamshire representative team in Super9s.
Super 9s is played with an incrediball, a lighter version of a cricket ball, and embodies all the skills of traditional cricket with the extra supportive elements that come from playing in an inclusive environment.
The first Nottinghamshire Super 9s squad formed during the 2025 summer, with more players joining up throughout the season. ECB Disability Champion Club Gedling Colliery CC support the team by offering net and outfield space for practice, which has helped coaches Richard Preskey and Liam Byrne develop the group’s skills and game awareness in preparation for matches. This will be followed by indoor winter training at Trent Bridge.
Nottinghamshire's Super 9s kit is proudly sponsored by Vertu, with players receiving their green and gold adidas apparel at a training session at Gedling Colliery CC.
"It's another way of expressing who he is with expectations that are slightly differtent to being in a team where people perhaps don't understand the struggles he has that aren't visible."
Susie, parent of Super 9s player
"To have a nationally-recognised sponsor is terrific. Not only does it give the funding injection that is fundamental to the longevity of the team, it also adds a level of pride when the players step out onto the pitch."
