hTrego, who linked up with Nottinghamshire ahead of the 2020 season, has assembled a record which stands comparison with any in the county game this century.
The all-rounder arrived in the East Midlands having scored over 18,000 runs and taken in excess of 600 wickets across all formats in his career, the majority of which had been spent with Somerset.
Trego had fallen out of red-ball contention towards the end of his time in the West Country, but turned in a run a committed First-Class performances for Notts in 2020.
He was absent from the Outlaws' T20 side for the majority of the season, but played a decisive hand with the bat in the Green and Golds' crushing of Surrey in the Vitality Blast final.
It was the latest bauble chalked up in a decorated career.
In 2007, Trego earned the recognition of the Cricket Society for his exploits with bat and ball, being named their leading all-rounder in English First-Class cricket.
This was followed five years later with one of the most prized honours in the domestic game, as the right-hander took home the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s Most Valuable Player award, triumphing over Darren Stevens, Moeen Ali and Chris Nash.
With 897 runs and 67 wickets in the 2012 campaign, recognition from the PCA was fully justified – and Trego maintained his imperious form in subsequent seasons.
The right-armer’s medium pace earned him a career-best 7-84 against Yorkshire in 2014, forming part of an eleven-wicket haul in the match.
Two summers later, Trego’s unbeaten 154 formed part of a county-record eighth-wicket stand of 236 against Lancashire, and helped him to finish the year with 1,070 runs at 44.58.
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old’s brutal ball-striking has been a firm fixture in the English white-ball game, with Trego hitting ten List A hundreds for Somerset and notching 3,273 T20 runs for the county at a strike-rate of 125.71.
No mere all-round cricketer, Trego has proven himself as an all-round sportsman, having enjoyed stints as a goalkeeper for Margate, Weston-Super-Mare, Clevedon Town, Chippenham Town and Bath City – and twice finding the back of the net from his own half.
